A More Convenient Day
Dr. Randy White

But as he was discussing righteousness, self-control and the judgment to come, Felix became frightened and said, “Go away for the present, and when I find time I will summon you.”” (Acts 24:25,)

Paul regularly stood before Felix the Governor, and his wife Drusilla, and was able to speak to them about faith in Christ.  It looks like Felix was more interested in gaining bribe money than information about a relationship with Jesus Christ, but the conversations, nonetheless, took place on regular occasion over a two year period.  On one of these occasions, Felix became frightened about the judgment to come, presumably feeling more adequate as judge than judged.  It is at this time he instructed Paul to go away until “I find time.”  However, the Scripture records that “after two years had passed, Felix was succeeded…” (v. 27).  As far as we know, during this two year period Felix never had a born-again experience.

An old song-writer echoed the words of Felix when he said, “Go Spirit, go thy way.  On thee, some more convenient day, I’ll call.”  These words speak the heart of millions:  I’ll get to Christ someday, some more convenient day.

I’m not sure that there is ever a convenient day to die to self and begin to live for Christ.  There is always a self-sacrifice involved in the transaction.  It is still true that God’s Spirit does not always strive with man.  Today may be the most convenient day you will ever have!

In His Grace,
Dr. Randy White
