Do Something

“Now there were four leprous men at the entrance of the gate; and they said to one another, ‘Why do we sit here until we die?’” (2 Kings 7:3,)

One of the worst mistakes an individual, organization, or community can make is to sit idle.  Too many times, seeking to protect what we have, we fail to act progressively for the future, and we loose not only what we have but also what we could have had!

The four leprous men realized they were dying, in this case not of leprosy but of starvation.  They looked at the options before them, neither of which were good options.  Either option was likely to end in death.  Having considered their situation, they only saw one in which there was the remotest possibility of life, but it also carried the most risk—entering into the enemy camp and praying for grace.  This option alone carried the threat of sudden and brutal death.

Many would have chosen to do nothing, praying that circumstances would someday, somehow change.  These four lepers, however, determined to do something, and that something paid great dividends. 

As they arrived at the enemy camp, the Lord managed the footsteps of the four of them to sound like a mighty approaching army.  The Aramean’s, in fear, fled for their lives, leaving behind all the resources of the camp. 

By doing something these men were saved.  While it does not always work out so well, doing something is far better on most occasions than doing nothing.  If your life outlook is not good, do something!
