"And the children of Israel said to Samuel, ‘Cease not to cry unto the Lord our God for us, that He will save us.'"
I Samuel 7: 8, King James Version

EXPLORATION:

"Keep Praying"

"I can take my telescope and look millions of miles into space; but I can go away to my room and in prayer get nearer to God and heaven than I can when assisted by all the telescopes of earth."
Isaac Newton

What role does prayer play in my daily life?

Have I asked my heavenly Father to fill my life with His power?

"The great tragedy of life is not unanswered prayer but unoffered prayer."
F. B. Meyer

INSPIRATION:

"The power of prayer consists in the knowledge that God is our God."
Friedrich Tholuck

After twenty years of having the Philistines breathing down their necks and the power of God withdrawn from their nation, God's children finally decided enough was enough.  As a group, they went to God for help.

Since we know there was one very faithful person in Israel, Samuel, the children of Israel reached out, in the best way they could, and told Samuel, "Please don't stop praying for us."

Let me ask you, "Has there ever been a time in your life when you felt so weak and out of it that what you really needed was someone to pray for you?"  Obviously, this is how the children of Israel felt.  Defeated and discouraged, they didn't have it in themselves to call out to God.  Furthermore, knowing how disobedient they had been, they believed it would be wise to have someone with a very fervent prayer life and an unbroken connection to heaven, intercede on their behalf and this is exactly what Samuel did.  He honored the request of God's children and continued to pray for them.

Way too often I've heard people say, "Well, I can't do much.  All I can do is pray." To this statement I'd like to say that when we pray, we are doing everything we can possibly do.

This is one of the reasons we pray for one another here in the garden.  When you and I intercede for one another - when we lift each other to heaven in prayer -- we are giving each other the greatest gift possible for nothing opens us up to the needs of each other more than our prayers for each other.

I had a friend many years ago who was too overwhelmed by life's challenges to even pray.  However her friends and family prayed for her - and that was enough to draw her out of a pit of despair.

Today there may be someone in your life who is crying out, "Continue to pray for me."  Or perhaps they are too weak to even ask.  My advice, "Keep praying anyway!"

"Prayer is not monologue, but dialogue: God's voice in response to mine is its most essential part.  Listening to God's voice is the secret of the assurance that He will listen to mine."
Andrew Murray

AFFIRMATION:

"O sweetest love of God,
too little known
whoever has found
You will be at rest.

Let everything change,
O my God, that I may rest in You.

How sweet to me is Your presence,
You who are the sovereign good!

I will draw near to You in silence,
and will uncover Your feet,
that it may please You to unite
me with Yourself, making my
soul Yours.

I will rejoice in nothing
until I am in Your arms;
O Lord, I beseech You,
leave me not for a moment."
John of the Cross
