"PURE"- 1) Free from Contamination; 2) Containing nothing unnecessary; 3) Without faults; 4) Full-strength. Free from impurities.
Have I invited God to restore me and to purify my life?
"No matter how far we have wandered, no matter how much damage we have inflicted on ourselves, God still loves us and still wants what is good for us. That's why God continues to pester us with discontent and uncertainty when we do wrong. That's why God never lets us be fulfilled by anything other than God. That's why God continues to offer us forgiveness."
Daniel E. Pilarczyk
During the past few days, we have studied more about the life of David - a man the Bible records was called by God and chosen to be the King of Israel. David was a person blessed. A man who chose to follow God's path as a young child.
But like all of us, David's later life was derailed when he followed the passions of his sinful heart rather than the destiny God had planned for him.
The lessons of David's experience, though, are found in God's forgiveness and God's power to restore us to His companionship once again.
David's fall and restoration are recorded in his own words in Psalm 51, one of the most soul-stirring passages in the entire Bible
As we reflect on our studies regarding David, I thought it would be beneficial to read the words David wrote. I have chosen to share with you Psalm 51 as found in The Message.
" A David psalm after he was confronted by Nathan about the affair with Bathsheba.
"Generous in love - God, give grace! Huge in mercy - wipe out my bad record. Scrub away my guilt, soak out my sins in your laundry. I know how bad I've been; my sins are staring me down.
"You're the One I've violated, and you've seen it all, seen the full extend of my evil. You have all the facts before you; whatever you decide about me is fair. I've been out of step with you for a long time, in the wrong since before I was born. What you're after is truth from the inside out. Enter me, then; conceive a new, true life.
"Soak me in your laundry and I'll come our clean, scrub me and I'll have a snow-white life. Tune me in to foot-tapping songs, set these once-broken bones to dancing. Don't look too close for blemishes, give me a clean bill of health. God, make a fresh start in me, shape a Genesis week from the chaos of my life. Don't throw me out with the trash, or fail to breathe holiness in me. Bring me back from gray exile, put a fresh wind in my sails! Give me a job teaching rebels your ways so the lost can find their way home. Commute my death sentence, God, my salvation God, and I'll sing anthems to your life=-giving ways. Unbutton my lips, dear God; I'll let loose with your praise.
"Going through the motions doesn't please you, a flawless performance is nothing to you I learned God-worship when my pride was shattered. Heart-shattered lives ready for love don't for a moment escape God's notice. Make Zion the place you delight in, repair Jerusalem's broken-down walls. Then you'll get real worship from us, acts of worship small and large, including all the bulls they can heave onto your altar!"
Aren't you glad the same God who called David to repentance, forgave all his sins, and restored him to the path of righteousness is the very same God who will do exactly what He did for David for you and me, too!
All we have to do is what David did - come to Him and ask for forgiveness.
"Oh Heart of Love, I place all my trust in You. I fear all things from my own weakness, but I hope for all things from your goodness."
