Psalm 46:10

“Be still, and know that I am God.  I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”

Give God some still time!

If this is going to happen, you are going to have to allocate time for it. You will not naturally just find yourself giving time to meditation on the things of God. But once you begin, you will find it to be one of the most important activities in your life.

The truly great people in almost any sphere of activity take time out just for thinking deeply about their lives and work. The Lord is calling us to apply this same discipline to our spiritual lives. It is difficult to take time to simply be quiet with God and his word. Not necessarily praying so much as listening and thinking about God and what he is putting on our hearts and minds. That’s why the Lord is saying to us today,“Be still, and know that I am God.”

When you first try this discipline you might struggle a bit. Andrew Murray has said, “If any are inclined to despond, because they do not have such patience, let them be of good courage. It is in the course of our feeble and very imperfect waiting that God Himself, by His hidden power, strengthens us and works out in us the patience of the saints, the patience of Christ Himself.”
