Hebrews 6:17-20

So when God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he guaranteed it with an oath, so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us. We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.”

Who God is makes His promises completely reliable!

It is impossible for God to lie.” The writer of Hebrews has just been talking about God’s promise to Abraham and Sarah that he would bless them with children. It was a promise that seemed totally impossible, as Sarah was way, WAY beyond childbearing age.

Abraham trusted this promise because of who it was that promised it, and we can trust that same One with his promises to us. His nature guarantees the truth of his words. His promises to his people have never failed since the beginning of time.

God doesn’t always do what we want, or act on our timetable, but no matter what is going on, he wants us to remember that his words can give us “hope”, because he never fails.
