Matthew 22:35-38

One of them, a lawyer, asked [Jesus]a question, testing Him, “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And He said to him, “‘YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.’ This is the great and foremost commandment.”

How has my love for God grown this past year?

This is the most important question of your life. Notice that Jesus is telling us what is the most important concern God has about our lives. God wants your love for Him to be the core of your life. Your love for God should be the bottom line of all decision making in your life.

When deciding what to watch on TV, remember your love for God. When reacting to someone who has treated you badly, remember your love for God. When given the opportunity to share Christ with someone, remember your love for God. When your alarm goes off for your quiet time with God and you are tired, remember your love for God.

Has your love for God grown stronger or weaker this past year? Think about relationships. What things make any relationship grow deeper and stronger? Now apply those things to your relationship with God. How can you take your relationship with God deeper this coming year? Commit to Him with all your heart, soul and mind.
