Years ago, a banking client of mine was frustrated as he shared, “I thought more sales would solve all my problems, but I doubled my sales last year and took home less profit than the year before. I don’t know why I bothered.”
Over the years, I’ve worked with many sales oriented business people that believe sales is the cure all for all problems. Then they discover it can cause more problems than it solves.
King Solomon shared his wisdom on this issue in Ecclesiastes 5:11 when he wrote, “As goods increase, so do those who consume them. And what benefit are they to the owner except to feast his eyes on them?”
More sales can be fruitful, but only if your profit margins and staffing levels are managed well.
