An Act of Love
This devotional was written by Jim Burns

A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. —John 13:34-35

At a Special Olympics event, nine runners took off in the 100-yard dash. The leader in the race fell while he was running and skinned his knee. Then an amazing sight took place. All the other kids ran past the young man who had been out in front, but when they heard him crying they all stopped and went back to comfort him. One of the little girls kissed his knee to make him feel better. After they helped him up, they all linked arms. The children finished the race as one—arms linked together.

The crowd gave them a standing ovation, cheering and crying for these incredibly giving kids. Perhaps in those special moments those kids taught us all a lesson about what it is to love one another and truly be a friend. What can you do today to show genuine love and support to someone else?

GOING DEEPER:

1. In John 13:34-35, Jesus challenged His disciples to show the world that there is a God who loves them by the love the disciples had for one another. How do you see this principle working in your own life?

2. Who can you go out of your way to show the love of God to today? What act of kindness and love will you offer?
