A Vision for Healing
This devotional was written by Robin Dugall

God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?” Hebrews 13:5-6

Almost two years ago, my four-year-old granddaughter was diagnosed with leukemia. Our family and friends sought the gracious Lord for His presence in what has been a tumultuous journey. These days, as Abby is entering the last six months of treatment with an unbelievable amount of personal patience, physical stamina, and emotional persistence, this stage of her life’s journey is almost at an end.  Abby has shown all of us up.  She has an inner strength that far surpasses the young years of her life.  Even through the most dramatic of cancer treatments, she has been more than “brave.”  She has been courageous in a manner that can only come from God.

We have witnessed with our own eyes a “vision” of healing.  We have seen God work in a situation that has not been devoid of fear and struggle, but one where God has brought about His purposes and Abby’s healing in the midst of all she (and we) have had to face.  A vision of healing begins with a dependence upon the ultimate victory of God.  When we took the initial steps with Abby, one of the biggest issues we had to take on in our hearts was the fact that all was out of our control.  Abby’s cancer was not something that was her mom’s or dad’s fault.  No one was to blame. We had to find ourselves resting in the ultimate will of the Lord God. We had to relinquish our hold on Abby and place her back securely in God’s hands.

This wasn’t an easy step.  It involved days and weeks of emotional toil, tears and doubts.  Even so, what eventually emerged through encouragement and support from friends and people who walked with us in this journey was that, ultimately, all we could do is trust God.  That’s really the vision of healing: trust.

I don’t know what struggles you face. But, I do know that we all face them. Whatever challenge you face today, let me encourage you that a vision for healing…your healing…begins with trusting God. We have God’s own assurance that He will never leave us or forsake us no matter what happens. That’s the truth.  That’s the beginning of a vision of healing in your life.
