Standing On Your Mission Field

And if you give even a cup of cold water to one of the least of my followers, you will surely be rewarded.  Matthew 10:42 NIV

When we received her picture, we trembled and cried tears of joy.  Eighteen months old.  Nineteen pounds.  Ten perfect fingers.  The tiniest nose.  Beautiful Chinese eyes. It was the first time we saw our precious daughter.

The moment we arrived in China, I realized I had a deep love for their people.  I looked intently into each person’s eyes.  In many of their faces, there seemed to be a longing for more.  I felt like my heart was being prepared for missions.

Once we became a family of three, I found myself with conflicting emotions.  My desire for missions continued to grow, but there was just no way.

Don’t get me wrong, I loved my new life.  I just had this nagging feeling that I should be out doing more.  Then my husband explained that we are missionaries. God gave us a specific mission.  It was just one girl.  We embarked on that mission when we traveled to China, and this mission will last a lifetime.

Our hearts are open and ready if God opens the door for us to go on a family mission’s trip now that our daughter is ten years old.  But until that appointed time, we are focusing on the mission which God has entrusted us.  Our mission field is in our own home.

Any chance you are like me? Have you ever caught yourself looking to help others on the outside before looking to do God’s work inside your home?  We are called to be faithful with the few things we have been given before God trusts us with more (Matthew 25: 21, 23).

List the names of your family members or your closest friends.  Take a moment to pray and ask God for practical steps so you can be His voice, hands and feet in their lives today.

No matter where you are, you are standing on your mission field.

Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for trusting us with a few precious things.  Open the eyes of our hearts so we can see how You want to bless those closest to us through us.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
