Café Menu for Wednesday May 21, 2014

Today’s Special is: Adoption

Carefully prepared just for you by your friend, Dr. Trudy Simmons

Main Ingredient:

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

- Matthew 19:14 NIV

Entrée:

The other night a few moms got together for a “mom’s night out.” As we were chatting, the conversation turned toward the topic of adoption. One of the moms had already adopted two children and was considering adopting a little boy from China.

As the conversation continued, this mom mentioned how her youngest adopted daughter told her, “I do not want to love you.” All this mom wanted to do was love this precious little girl. This statement broke my heart. Even though this mom had chosen to bring this beautiful little girl into her home and into her family, the little girl was still protecting her own heart. She had been wounded, rejected by her own flesh and blood.

I started wondering, “How do we as adopted children into the kingdom of God say these words to our Father?” Our heavenly Father has chosen us to be a part of His family and His kingdom. Yet so often, because of our woundedness, we are too afraid to open up and receive the love of adoption from our Father’s hands.

I love the verse in Matthew 19:14, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” (NIV). This paints a beautiful picture of how our Father is waiting with open arms to receive us, wounded, broken and rejected into his kingdom. All we have to do, just like my friend’s little daughter, is receive it!

Take Out:

When you are feeling rejected and hurt, remember that you are accepted and loved by our heavenly Father! He has fully adopted you!

Dessert:

Father, thank You for adopting me into Your kingdom. I choose today to say “YES”!  And if there is someone that is feeling left out, whether big or small, let me adopt him or her into my life just as You have adopted me. For we know that we do not have to have the same last name to be in a family!
