Dear Friends,
What can we learn from this week’s Bible readings? Well, for one thing, complaining is a “waster of time.” The Israelites complained to Moses about everything; and Moses, in turn, complained to God about them! Even Moses’ own brother and sister complained to God about him. The Israelites paid a high price for their constant complaining – most of them forfeited their right to the promised land. It’s always better to trust God when things don’t go our way.
A second lesson we can learn from the Israelites is to be wary whom we take advice from. Ten spies doubted God’s promise to give Israel the land and the people accepted their doubt. Going along with the majority is not always the best idea either, that’s the third thing we learn. Only Joshua and Caleb stood for the Lord. When we accept advice, we must be certain that it lines up with the Word of God, then stand firmly stand on His Word. Even though we’re reading of events that took place about 4,000 years ago, the principles are still the same.
Even leaders are not infallible and may fall – Moses did and he is one of the most revered men in the Bible. Sin cost him the promised land, which just proves that God is no respecter of persons (Acts 10:34) – a fourth lesson we can learn from this week’s readings. It’s a lot easier to learn from other’s mistakes rather than our own. So hang in there; it’s all a learning process. God’s not through with us yet! Let’s join together in praising His Holy Name!
