Max is a graduate of Abilene Christian University (TX) with both a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degree. From 1983 to 1987, he was a church-planting missionary serving in Rio de Janeiro, responsible for evangelism, leadership training and preaching.

He has sold more than 65 million books to date. Some of his works are Max On Life; 3:16; No Wonder They Call Him the Savior; Six Hours One Friday; In the Eye of the Storm; He Still Moves Stones; He Chose the Nails; Travelling Light; and Grace for the Moment.

A self-described "husband/dad/preacher/author," Max makes his home in San Antonio, Texas, with his wife Denalyn and their three daughters, Jenna, Andrea, and Sara. He serves as Minister of Writing and Preaching of the Oak Hills Church in San Antonio.
