• Fulfilling the promises

          We’ve traveled a long way from God’s call of Abraham to the formation of the nation of Israel united under its first king.  As we begin the Book of II Samuel we read how God is fulfilling the promises He made to David as a teenager and how His plan for David’s life is unfolding. 

• They call it Easter
  Earlier we read how Moses led God’s chosen people to freedom from Egyptian slavery following the first Passover  on the 14th day of the month of Abib (Ex. 12:6-18;13:4;23:15;34:18). 
• Situational ethics
  Did you ever do a half-hearted job or didn’t do something at all and then get chastised over it?  That’s what God had to do with the Israelites – not once, not twice, but over and over again. God shows us the shortcomings of the Israelites so we can identify with them. 
• Complaining
  What can we learn from this week’s Bible readings? Well, for one thing, complaining is a “waster of time.” The Israelites complained to Moses about everything; and Moses, in turn, complained to God about them! Even Moses’ own brother and sister complained to God about him. 
• Numbers
  We have now completed reading the third book of the Bible. What a great accomplishment! And, for those of you who’ve read the Bible more than once, did it speak to your present circumstances this time? That’s what’s so exciting about the Bible – it’s living and always meets our present needs.
