Happy Feet

"How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!" Romans 10:15 (NKJV)

Something went wrong with the people of Israel. They tried to be right with God by virtue of ritual and routine instead of relating to Him by faith. And the climax occurred as Jesus came to them but was rejected by them.

It was the greatest tragedy ever witnessed. But here's what Paul would want us to know. As tragic as Israel's rejection of Jesus was, it's that much more marvelous when one receives Him. Jesus is the object of the faith that justifies us, and when we trust in Him, everything we've learned in Romans chapters one through eight is ours.

And it's this message about Jesus, this good news, this gospel, that "if you confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead you shall be saved." It's this message that God has entrusted to those of us who have received and welcomed Christ into our hearts.

Never has there ever been a grander message. Nothing can compare to the news that God's Son has come to rescue and redeem us from the eternal punishment our sin deserves…nothing!

The Bible uses the word "blessed" to describe the very feet of those who bear this message. In the original language, it could be rendered "lively" or "happy." That's worth noting because all too often Christians aren't known for being happy. Many times, they come across as critical and caustic. "Believe in Jesus or burn!" Or uncertain and unconvincing: "Um, you probably don't want to hear this, but I kinda' want to tell you something about Jesus."

Neither reflects the happy heart that comes from a real understanding and appreciation of the gospel. So how happy are you about the gospel, and are you showing it by how you're sharing it?
