And David said to Abigail, ‘Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, who sent you this day to meet me.'"
I Samuel 25: 32, Amplified Bible

EXPLORATION

"Sent By God"

"Gather us, Lord, or scatter us; do as Thou deemest right."
Béla Vassady

Have you ever felt that at a particular moment, God had sent you to encourage and strengthen another person?

Has there been a time in your life when God sent someone to assist you at just the right time in your life?

"What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us. What we have done for others…remains and is immortal."
Albert Pine

INSPIRATION

"Lord, speak to me, that I may speak in living echoes of Thy tone."
Frances Ridley Havergal

She came with a feast of food and words. And by the time Abigail finished speaking to David and feeding his men, David had something he thought he needed to say. He said, "Thank you." But he didn't stop with words of gratitude to Abigail. He also had words of praise for a heavenly Father, whom he informed Abigail had sent her to intercept his mission of murder.

I must tell you, this passage of Scripture touched my heart - for several reasons. First, David realized that Abigail was God's messenger!  It didn't matter that she was a woman. There was no argument about her gender for David understood Abigail's message was heaven-sent.  Second, David was so in tune with his heavenly Father that he recognized God's message when it was sent to Him.

This is certainly an example of what witnessing for God is all about. It doesn't matter your age, gender, nationality or education. What does matter is that you are willingly doing the bidding of your Father in heaven, which Abigail was. And as David informed her, "God sent you to me."

I never really understood what it means to have God send you on His mission until I began Transformation Garden over three years ago.  Never a day passes that someone, somewhere, in over 178 countries doesn't email me, as a girl from Kenya did yesterday, who said, "Thank you for being there for me and giving me the encouragement I needed."  I have to tell you, it still brings tears to my eyes when someone sends me a note to let me know that the words or prayers being lifted heavenward were just what they needed.

In I Samuel 25, it is David, the future King of Israel, a descendant of Jesus Christ, who says to Abigail, "Your heavenly message was just for me. Thank God He sent you to me." All the glory for Abigail's message went to her Father in heaven who was the person she was walking with everyday.

Abigail was a person who listened and thought. Then she acted in a generous manner. And when she finally opened her mouth to speak, she brought glory to her Father in heaven.

What a tremendous blueprint for you and me to follow in our own lives as we relate to those around us. The great spiritual prayer warrior, Oswald Chambers wrote, "We are not built for ourselves, but for God."  In the life of Abigail we see evidence of this statement lived out in a practical manner.

While Abigail had to live within the confines of a difficult marriage, she did not allow this personal pain to strip away her relationship with her Father in heaven. And at the moment God called her into action, she was ready to respond with vigor. She understood when we are called of God, as Josip Horak noted, we aren't called to go out against a wall, instead our Father calls us to walk through an open door. When we do, we can, every one of us, be assured that someone will say, "Thank you for being there for me. God sent you just when I needed you the most!"

"People don't care how much we know until they know how much we care."

AFFIRMATION

"I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?' Then I said, ‘Here am I! Send me.'"
Isaiah 6: 8, K.J.V.

"Lord, make us into the people You want us to be, and forgive us where we fall short.
Teach us to be generous in judgment, bold in commitment, and sensitive in listening.
Where we find no love, let us bring love, and make us more like you."
