Rules or Relationships?
By Rick Boxx
November 11, 2010

Just like in many homes, some businesses struggle with the proper balance for discipline. Some are way too permissive. Others are too strict.

A formula I teach is "Rules + Relationships = Corporate Integrity. If you have rules, but not much relationship, you will likely experience rebellion.

If on the other hand you're strong on relationships, but you don't have structured guidelines, you may experience chaos. Balancing the two assures that your people know you care, yet expect results.

Romans 13:3 teaches, "For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you."

Strong leaders know how to balance compassion and discipline.
