Dear Friends,
We’ve traveled a long way from God’s call of Abraham to the formation of the nation of Israel united under its first king. As we begin the Book of II Samuel we read how God is fulfilling the promises He made to David as a teenager and how His plan for David’s life is unfolding.
In these few chapters we read of David’s military victories, his great sin, his flight at the time of Absalom’s revolt, his return to Jerusalem, and his sin in numbering the people. This week’s reading ends as David’s last words are recorded. His life reads like a novel, full of adventure, heartache, and joy. Let’s read it carefully and take the lessons laid out here to our heart that we might keep from falling into similar pitfalls. We would be wise to copy his ways as he led a nation in the ways of the Lord, and learn to love the Father as he did.
David is a foreshadow of Jesus, and was honored by God as we are told in Matthew and Luke that Jesus is listed in David’s lineage. Jesus is called the Son of David. Not only was David rewarded by being made king of God’s chosen people but his highest praise came from God Himself through Stephen’s speech in Acts 13:22.
We do thank you for loving the Lord and His Word. Join me in praising Him for who He is – the Savior of the world!!
