Jesus said, “In this world you will have trouble.” Yikes! Then he added these words, “But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). It is just like one of Job’s
counselors said, “Man is born to trouble as surely as sparks fly upward” (Job 5:7). Yikes! Fortunately for us we don’t take counsel from Job’s advisors. We get our counsel from the King of kings. This takes the “yikes” away and replaces it with “Praise God!”
The good news is that Jesus has indeed overcome the world. We will overcome right along with him since we are in him. We will be looking at Paul’s second letter to the church in Corinth. Guess what? They needed help just like we do today. Paul declares that this will come from “the God of all comfort” (2 Corinthians 1:3). He will live up to his name.
