Pastor Miles pointed out a fascinating fact about how the Old Testament points to Christ. In this case, we can go all the way back to Moses as he tries to convince his brother the Pharaoh to release the Israelites. As Pharaoh continues to deny God’s request time and time again, God sends ten plagues upon Egypt. The last plague would kill the first born child of every household, yet the Jews are given instructions to save their own children. God tells them to sacrifice a lamb and place its blood above their door posts. In doing this, the Israelites are “passed over” when the angel of death comes upon the people (and hence, the remembrance of this event becomes the celebration of Passover). The lamb intercedes in death by its blood for God’s people to save them from death, just as Jesus becomes the lamb who saves us from our sin and allows us to live eternally in heaven.
