Dear Friends,
We have now completed reading the third book of the Bible. What a great accomplishment! And, for those of you who’ve read the Bible more than once, did it speak to your present circumstances this time? That’s what’s so exciting about the Bible – it’s living and always meets our present needs.
Numbers speaks to us about the feasts and fast God designated the Israelites to observe each year. They were a picture of Jesus’ ministry as He “tabernacled” (dwelt temporary) with us, was offered as the sinless Passover Lamb, was the Unleavened Bread from heaven, arose from the tomb on Firstfruits as the firstborn from the dead (Col. 1:18) and sent the Holy Spirit at first harvest (i.e. ingathering, Pentecost). Priests were called to be clean and holy as earthly representatives of God. Under the New Covenant we are a royal priesthood, an holy nation (people) (I Peter 2:9; Rev. 1:5-6).
The Book of Numbers details how God organized the people in preparation of entering the promised land. “The Lord spoke to Moses” over 85 times. Note the massive array of animals for the offerings. A reminder of Divine freedom as the Passover is once again celebrated, the foreshadow of Jesus’ resurrection for our freedom.
Let’s praise His Name together.
In Christ, Pastor Rick
